An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Registered Manager to lead and develop a children's home supporting young people aged 10-17 with mental health challenges, emotional and behavioural difficulties, and associated learning disabilities. The home accommodates up to 8 young people and is based in the West Midlands.
You will play a key role in ensuring the home delivers high-quality, therapeutic, child-centred care and meets the highest standards in line with Ofsted, Children's Homes Regulations (2015), and Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018).
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Service Management
Oversee day-to-day operations and ensure regulatory compliance
Provide visionary leadership to the care team, promoting a culture of high performance, care, and accountability
Lead inspections and ensure the home meets or exceeds standards, aiming for a minimum "Good" and aspiring to "Outstanding" Ofsted ratings
Work flexibly to support the needs of the home, including participating in the on-call rota and covering shifts when required
Manage budgets and occupancy to align with business goals and placement suitability
Safeguarding & Care Planning
Safeguard and promote the wellbeing of children and young people at all times
Oversee and quality-assure care plans, risk assessments, behaviour support plans, education and health plans
Ensure placements are well-matched and all documentation is in place prior to admission
Promote a safe, structured, nurturing environment that supports healing and positive outcomes
Ensure children's rights, voice, and participation are embedded in daily practice
Team & Staff Development
Recruit, train, and retain high-performing staff teams using safer recruitment practices
Provide supervision, mentoring, and appraisals in line with best practice and regulation
Ensure staff complete inductions, training, and professional development plans
Lead team meetings, staff communications, and ongoing service development
Support staff in delivering high-quality care, including key work and therapeutic approaches
Quality Assurance & Compliance
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all relevant legislation, policies, and standards
Complete internal audits, monthly reports, and respond to Regulation 44 and Ofsted recommendations
Maintain high standards of documentation, safeguarding records, and data protection compliance
Ensure the environment is safe, clean, welcoming, and meets the emotional and physical needs of residents
Represent the home with external professionals, local authorities, and families
About You
Essential:
2+ years at management / senior level in a Children's Residential Service
Relevant qualification: Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare (England) or equivalent
Strong knowledge of Children's Homes Regulations (2015), Children Act, and safeguarding legislation
Excellent leadership, organisational, and interpersonal skills
Confident managing inspections, audits, and compliance processes
Experience supporting children with complex needs, trauma, and challenging behaviour
Ability to lead by example, manage teams effectively, and create a positive workplace culture
A clear Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
UK Driving Licence (essential for this role)
Desirable:
Experience with therapeutic care models
Training in DSL (Designated Safeguarding Lead) or behaviour support strategies
Strong IT and report-writing skills
