The Registered Manager leads and manages an Ofsted-registered children's home, ensuring high-quality, child-focused care aligned with the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, Quality Standards, and Statement of Purpose. The role includes day-to-day management, safeguarding leadership, compliance oversight, supervision of staff teams, maintaining a safe therapeutic environment, and continuously improving outcomes for children.
Experience and KnowledgeEssential:
Proven experience managing or acting as deputy manager within an Ofsted-regulated children's home
Extensive knowledge of the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards
Strong track record in managing Ofsted inspections successfully, achieving positive outcomes
Comprehensive understanding of safeguarding practices, including managing safeguarding concerns, allegations, and serious incidents
Experience developing and implementing individualised care plans, risk assessments, and behaviour management strategies
Demonstrable skills in leadership, supervision, and developing staff to achieve high standards of care
Experience working collaboratively with social workers, local authorities, external professionals, and families
Desirable:
Experience managing therapeutic or trauma-informed children's homes
Previous experience successfully registering with Ofsted as a Registered Manager
Qualifications and TrainingEssential:
Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare or equivalent, or currently working towards completion
GCSE Maths and English at grade C / 6 or above (or equivalent qualifications)
Evidence of ongoing professional development in residential childcare and safeguarding
Enhanced DBS clearance (Children's Workforce) on the update service, or willingness to obtain
Desirable:
Professional qualification (social work, youth work, health) or relevant degree-level qualification
Additional specialist training in trauma-informed care, safeguarding leadership, therapeutic models, attachment theory, or child development
Skills and AbilitiesEssential:
Strong leadership, organisational, and management skills, capable of motivating, supervising, and guiding staff to high-performance standards
Excellent knowledge and skills in safeguarding children, managing risk effectively, and implementing safeguarding policies
Ability to confidently manage challenging behaviours and complex situations, maintaining a calm, consistent, and professional approach
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, confidently engaging children, families, staff, external professionals, and regulatory bodies
Proficient in quality assurance, record-keeping, and case management systems, ensuring accurate documentation meets regulatory standards
Ability to reflect critically on practice, drive continuous improvement, and develop a learning culture within the home
Skilled in managing staff performance, recruitment, induction, supervision, appraisal, and professional development effectively
