Charis Mc is committed to transforming the lives of children and young people with complex emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD). We provide therapeutic, stable, and nurturing residential care that promotes healing, resilience, and lasting growth.
Our practice is rooted in trauma-informed and attachment-based principles, ensuring every child experiences safety, trust, and connection. Relationships are at the centre of everything we do -- we believe that healing happens through consistency, empathy, and meaningful connection.
We are opening a new therapeutic children's home in Slough, Berkshire, and are seeking an experienced, emotionally intelligent, and values-led OFSTED Registered Manager to lead this exciting project. This is a unique opportunity to develop a home from the ground up -- shaping its therapeutic ethos, culture, and care standards to achieve exceptional outcomes for children and young people.
Our Therapeutic Practice
At Charis Mc, our approach is underpinned by PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, and Empathy) and informed by Dyadic Developmental Practice (DDP).
We understand that children's behaviour often reflects unmet emotional needs or trauma, and our response focuses on connection, co-regulation, and compassion rather than control. Our therapeutic model promotes emotional safety, reflection, and empowerment -- enabling children to rebuild trust and confidence.
Staff are supported through reflective supervision, restorative practice, and continuous therapeutic training to ensure the principles of trauma-informed care are fully embedded in daily practice.
The Role
As the Registered Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the leadership, management, and regulatory compliance of the home. You will create a safe, therapeutic, and emotionally containing environment where children feel valued, understood, and supported to thrive.
You will lead and inspire your team to deliver outstanding, child-centred care and ensure the home consistently meets OFSTED's Quality Standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead on the setup, registration, and operational management of a new therapeutic children's home.
Embed a trauma-informed, attachment-led, and PACE-based model of care throughout the service.
Ensure full compliance with the Children's Homes Regulations 2015 and OFSTED's Inspection Framework.
Provide strong, compassionate leadership and therapeutic supervision for the care team.
Promote a culture of reflection, learning, and emotional containment across the home.
Develop and oversee individualised care and placement plans that meet each young person's emotional and therapeutic needs.
Build and maintain positive relationships with children, families, local authorities, and external professionals.
Drive continuous improvement and ensure the home achieves "Good" or "Outstanding" OFSTED outcomes.
About You
You are a confident, compassionate, and reflective leader who understands the impact of trauma, loss, and attachment disruption. You bring emotional intelligence, empathy, and professionalism to your work -- always prioritising the wellbeing and safety of young people.
Essential Requirements:
Minimum 3 years' experience working with children in residential care.
Proven experience supporting children with complex emotional and behavioural needs.
NVQ Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or working towards).
Strong knowledge of trauma-informed practice, attachment theory, safeguarding, and childcare legislation.
Experience managing inspections and achieving positive OFSTED outcomes.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
