The home offers a safe and nurturing environment where young people can build positive relationships and gain the confidence to address past challenges while focusing on their future. This is a solo provision offering 2:1 care for children aged 6-16 years.

Essential Skills and Experience



A minimum of 3 years' experience as a Registered Manager or Deputy Manager within a Residential Child Care setting within the last five years. Comprehensive knowledge and experience in implementing the Quality Standards for Children's Homes in line with Ofsted standards. Proven experience in administrative tasks such as filing, record-keeping, rota preparation, and report writing for children's homes. A professional qualification at Level 4/5 in 'Working with Children and Young People' or equivalent. A strong commitment to ongoing professional development and a willingness to pursue further training. Extensive Knowledge in Safeguarding. The ability to apply for Registered Manager status with Ofsted and successfully undergo an interview to assess suitability.

Key Responsibilities



Oversee weekly budgeting, including cash management and petty cash. Ensure the welfare of children, as defined by the Children Act 1989. Facilitate weekly staff meetings and supervision. Arrange and participate in training, while contributing to your own professional development by keeping informed of national developments in childcare policies and practices. Chair statutory and in-house reviews for all young people in your care. Provide telephone advice when required, and in emergencies, be prepared to attend the home. Ensure staff are kept up-to-date with any procedural changes within Apple Orchard. Foster open communication among staff, ensuring individuals have opportunities to express their opinions. Offer guidance and support to staff, especially when handling incidents. Provide constructive feedback to promote professionalism. Inform the Responsible Individual promptly in cases of disputes or concerns. Manage weekly rotas and staff annual leave schedules. Promote equal opportunities and ensure the safety and security of both staff and young people, especially during off-site activities. Be accountable for decisions regarding the welfare of young people and staff at all times. Encourage young people to participate in decision-making and planning processes. Organise and oversee individual staff supervision. Ensure all administrative tasks are completed in line with current regulations. Oversee all house activities, ensuring that thorough risk assessments are conducted.
