Experience of and ability to lead staff teams to provide a high level of care within a residential childcare setting

Have attention to detail ensuring correct information is recorded in all paperwork, keeping this up to date and organized for the managers review
Be able to adapt working practice to the ethos of the home
Have resilience, motivation and determination

Be inclusive to all children & young people
Diploma Level 3 qualified in Children and Young Person's Workforce or equivalent
Have 3 years' work experience working with Children and Young People within a residential environment including 2 years at senior level
Experience of Ofsted Inspections
Experience of attending professionals meetings and working contributively with the professional network
Experience of attending formal meetings and preparing formal reports
Up to date knowledge of the current legislation governing the sector
Have an understanding and can demonstrate confidentiality
Strong knowledge of the Children's Homes Regulations 2015 including the Standards for residential children's homes
Physical activities with the children and young people
Demonstrate a commitment to personal development and acquisition of professional skills and further qualifications
Be flexible and able to undertake shift work including weekends and sleep-ins.
Ability to participate in 'On-Call-Manager' Rota and take calls out of hours.
Safe holding and physical intervention
Be confident in using Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel and Word

Responsibilities
Oversee daily operations of the Children's Residential home, ensuring high standards of care and compliance with regulations.
Lead and manage staff, providing supervision and support to enhance team performance.

Foster effective communication with the children in your care, families, local authority, social workers and other professionals to promote a collaborative care environment.

Working as a Children's Residential Support Worker at Iglu Cottage, will mean that you will become part of a caring and committed team; providing consistent and high quatilty nurturing care experiences and opportunities for children and young people with a variety of individual needs. Including those with learning disabilities (LD) and/or emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD) who may, at times, present challenging behaviour.Whilst ensuring we work within legislation, and comply with Ofsted regulations.
Following a thorough induction and training programme, your duties will include:
- Supporting, mentoring and educating our children in day to day activities to develop their emotional, social needs and over all well-being
- Developing personal and practical skills to enhance independent living
- Positive engagement to encourage our children and young adults in their development
- Reporting and recording key aspects of care, contributing to care plan and individualised plans and developing your professional skills as part of on-going development
- Managing complex and challenging behaviour
- Support with engagement in in-house and offsite activities
- Safeguarding children and young people & develop and maintain positive relationships within the home and with external professionals
- To have a good knowledge and understanding of children's development, including an awareness of different learning disabilities and social communication needs for children and young people

Knowledge / Experience
NVQ level 3 Diploma in relevant care/children & young people related area or equivalent or higher recognised qualification.
Key Task Areas and Responsibilities
To participate in the rota, for care of children & young people team.
To include:
Personal care
Organising and participating in appropriate activities
Domestic duties
Cooking and shopping
Transporting to appointments and activities
General upkeep and maintenance of the home
And to Fulfil sleep-in duties in accordance with the agreed rota by the home manager.
Support and supervise the children and young people in the implementation of individual programmes of activities, life skills, key skills and independence skills including leisure in their Home and the community.
Support young people within the Home in accordance with their personal/ pathway/ placement, care plans and the policies, procedures and practices of the home.
Make accurate, clear and appropriate entries in young people's records, diaries and reports as necessary, in accordance with the home and local policies, procedures and practices.
Support and enable young people to maintain a level of personal hygiene through offering guidance and support to develop their independence. Encouraging attending health appointments
Work with and manage challenging behaviour, enabling young people to develop from needing external control to developing self-control.
Organise and participate in a wide variety of appropriate activities, encouraging physical exercise, improve confidence, self esteem and independence.
Safeguard all young people within the Home and ensure their safety and wellbeing.
Administer medication in accordance with Company and Regulatory Body policies and procedures. Ensure that medication is stored in safe manner in accordance with policy.
Ensure effective record keeping of all financial transactions and ensure they are in accordance with individual placement agreements, and Company and Regulatory Body policies and procedures.
Organise and attend appointments as required. Ensure that all the relevant personal/pathway/placement plans for young people are in place, accurate and up to date.
To work positively and effectively with relatives, advocates and other professionals that may be involved.
Support young people with completing and returning homework that has been set by education. Communicate effectively with education staff to ensure a consistent approach and to provide a daily link between education and Home.
Ongoing self development by completing mandatory and additional identified on line, in house and external training.
Key Worker responsibilities:
To support the young people by acting as an internal advocate, involving them in every aspect of their care.
Completing weekly key work sessions with allocated key child or other young people within the home. Key work sessions to be recorded and shared with the young people.
Support in the arrangements for contact and ensure that the young person's wishes and feeling are taken into account.
General
Ensure awareness that the service operates to agreed budgets and contribute to keeping within these budgets as instructed. Ensuring accurate logs and recordings
Exercise vigilance in respect of Health and Safety and promptly report all hazards and/or remedying them where appropriate. Undertake all duties in a manner calculated to minimise or avoid unnecessary risks, personally or to others.
Report issues and/or incidents relating to staff and young people that have arisen in the day promptly to the relevant Line Manager or appropriate person.
Operate at all times in accordance with Company policies and procedures, with particular reference to Safeguarding, Child Protection, Whistleblowing, Complaints and Representations and Behaviour Policies.
Participate in training and take responsibility for personal development. Participate in team meetings, supervisions and annual reviews in accordance with home policies and the standards set by the Regulatory Body.
Work to promote the Home as a valued, professional asset within its community and conduct themselves at all times in a manner that reinforces this image.
Ensure that all actions are in the best interests of the young people and the wider organisation.
To carry out any other reasonable and relevant duties as required by the management of the home and wider management of the organisation.
