We are a 58 bedded Acute Medical Unit (AMU) part of the acute medical and urgent care Division which includes the Acute Frailty Unit (AFU) & Medical Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC). The Units receive admissions direct from ED which encompass a varied range of medical conditions. We are skilled in caring for patients with specialist requirements such as non-invasive ventilation (NIV/BiPap), airway management, haemorrhage, acute cardiac presentations and many more.
Patient flow can be fast paced with patients being discharged or admitted to speciality wards. Length of stay on the Unit is usually
24 hours meaning an ever changing caseload.
We are supported by a wide range of services within the Multi-Disciplinary Team to facilitate safe, efficient discharge from our service & continuous clinical senior nursing cover.
You will receive a full supernumerary induction to give you time to get to know your colleagues & complete the required competencies to secure safe practice. We have a dedicated team of Clinical Practice Facilitators who will help you to identify areas of learning & development to enhance your practice. You will develop a wide range of clinical & non-clinical skills to support an advancing career & will develop knowledge of many different medical specialities.
You will be expected to take on a link nursing role in a specialism that interests you.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for effectively delivering skilled nursing care to patients using a systemic approach of assessing planning, implementing and evaluating to ensure a high standard of care. The post holder will assist in the admission and discharge processes for patients in line with local procedures.
They will provide support with the effective patient admission pathways and effective discharge planning using their clinical skills to agree admissions and manage/report any impact on shifts/ workload and staffing levels.
They will proactively engage with patients, relatives and carers to seek their views, gain agreement and keep them informed about their treatment and care. They will demonstrate compassion by recognising and responding to individual needs in a warm, thoughtful, sensitive and helpful way.
Maintain registration, and nursing competencies, and comply with NMC code of Professional Conduct and related documents.
To be flexible to work within other areas or departments to meet the demands of the trust workforce model and changing service needs.
