Here at he Isle of Wight NHS Trust we are passionate about the development of our people, and are proud of our successful apprenticeship programme so we are delighted to offer places on our popular Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship Adult Nursing pathway.



Our nursing apprenticeship programme is offered in collaboration with the Open University. Successful applicants will be given the opportunity to become caring, compassionate professionals who uphold the values of the Isle of Wight NHS Trust and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).



Through undertaking clinical placements, combined with a diverse academic programme, apprentice nurses will deliver skilled, evidence-based care in partnership with patients, families and communities.



Become part of our future nursing team by joining the February 2026 cohort of Registered Nurse Degree Apprentices (Adult specialism only). The course duration is 4 years and consists of a balance of theory and practice, delivered through a combination of practice-based and distance learning modules.

The Salary for existing NHS employees will be in line with Annex 30 NHS Terms and Conditions.



As a nursing apprentice, you will divide your time between working as a Healthcare Support Worker in your designated clinical Corebase, completing protected supernumerary shifts in your role as a nursing apprentice, and participating in allocated study time. The programme is offered as a full-time opportunity (37.5 hours per week).



Upon successful completion of the programme, apprentices will meet the qualification requirements to apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Registered Adult Nurse. They will also receive support in applying for Registered Nurse positions.



Please note - We are so pleased to able to offer select places to existing Nursing Associates who wish to 'top-up' their learning and become a Registered Adult Nurse.

The application process has the following stages:



STAGE ONE:

Submit an application to the Isle of Wight Trust for this position



STAGE TWO:

If your Trust application is shortlisted, you will be invited via email to apply to the Open University for a place on the Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship. This will involve the completion of an application and skill scan. You will be asked to provide copies of certificates to the Open University during this stage.



STAGE THREE:

If accepted by the Open University, you will be invited to attend a joint in-person interview with the Isle of Wight NHS Trust and Open University. Interviews will be held during week commencing 27/10/2025.



Both the Isle of Wight NHS Trust and the Open University have pre-employment checks that must be satisfied before a formal offer of a place on this apprenticeship programme can be made.

To apply for the Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship you must:



Be aged 18 or over at the start of the programme

Have the right to work in the UK and eligible residency status to enable access to Apprenticeship funding. Please see Apprenticeship Funding Eligibility document for further details
