You have the exciting opportunity to be part of the innovative, forward-thinking pre-operative team who work together to safely triage, and risk assess each individual patient on the planned elective surgical care pathway. Using excellent communication skills, nursing knowledge and interpersonal skills, you will need to demonstrate independent safe decision-making, and be able to critically analyse intended patient care, to provide positive safe solutions.
Practise in accordance with an ethical and legal framework which ensures patient interests and well-being, respecting confidentiality.
Practise in a fair and anti-discriminatory way, acknowledging the differences in beliefs and cultural practices of individuals or groups.
Document a safe, risk reducing medical history, highlighting any physical, psychological, social or spiritual issues your patient may have, and manage/escalate as appropriate.
Formulate and document a plan of pre-operative nursing care with your patients, clients, their carers, family and friends, using a framework of informed consent and shared-decision-making.
Ensure pre-operative elective surgical care is planned and delivered according to national and local evidence-based guidelines.
Organise relevant pre-operative investigations as per hospital protocol and NICE guidelines.
Exercise sound clinical judgement, and sound decision-making in terms of the patients' risk and suitability for surgery, consulting Clinicians as necessary for advice and support to maintain patient safety.
Recognise if your patient's health is deteriorating and take appropriate action to manage the patient or escalate your concerns.
