Job Description

To ensure that the values and principles of the organisation and the service area are translated into the philosophy and operational policy/Statement of Purpose of the service and that these are evident in everyday practice and reviewed on a regular basis, ensuring that the service is delivered and developed in line with relevant Trust policies, procedures and values. To establish, develop and review policies, practices and procedures which meet legislative, Trust and directorate requirements, and which can be accessed by the staff team, young people, their carers, partner agencies and statutory bodies such as OFSTED and CQC To ensure that the service is delivered and developed in line with The Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, CQC Regulatory Guidance and the Care Act 2014 and other relevant legislation and regulatory guidance, and any new legislation/policy/guidance is effectively communicated, understood and integrated into daily practice and service delivery. To facilitate a warm, accepting environment where the physical, emotional, health, social, educational, cultural and spiritual needs of children and young people can be met ensuring that short breaks are a positive experience for them and their families care needs. With a specific focus of Safe, caring, responsive, effective and well led service delivery To be responsible overseeing the maintenance of the building and grounds, and ensure safe systems of work are adhered to, so that the environment is safe, pleasant, homely, fit for purpose.



This includes responsibility for implementing and developing health and safety protocols and individual risk assessments with the staff team To line manage, effectively lead and motivate the staff team, providing support, supervision and guidance, ensuring effective team working, and supporting professional and personal development, to act as a catalyst for positive change. To ensure staff comply with mandatory and statutory training and receive and annual appraisals. To be involved and potentially lead, where necessary with performance management, sickness procedure and recruitment Ensure all new staff to the service receive the relevant induction and ensure that all the members of the staff team are aware of their own responsibilities in relation to inducting new staff members. To develop a training plan for the staff team, identifying and prioritising need and timescales, in liaison with the Trust Training team.



To take responsibility for staffing rosters, ensuring adequate skill mix, according to the needs of the children and young people, ensure that deficits are identified and acted upon. Take decisive action on the most effective means of covering shortfall in negotiation with Head of Directorate. Authorisation of annual leave, study leave and time owing. Keeping accurate records in respect of this.



Responsibility for the management of activity within the area including issues relating to admissions/referrals, bed occupancy/Children and young people mix and risk Responsible for caseload management in the service, ensuring systems are in place to ensure efficient allocation of named nurse/ key workers and that the function of the role are fulfilled. To provide sound financial management, and effective use of resources, in line with the Trust financial instructions and policies and procedures To build relationships with the children and young people, ensuring the highest quality of care and engagement, seeking feedback and involvement To develop opportunities to seek and implement parent/carers views about the service and individual care plans.
