Job description
We are looking for an enthusiastic environmental professional to join our team responsible for the regulation of environmental permits across the Kent and South London Area.


You will be at the forefront of protecting people and the environment from harm and securing environmental improvements.


As a regulatory officer you will be supported to develop skills in ensuring compliance under the Environmental Permitting Regulations at a range of industrial and waste installations. You will make assessments of an operators' ability to protect the environment, prevent pollution and optimise the use of resources. This will involve site-based regulation and desk-based analysis and interpretation of environmental data. You will be expected to take appropriate enforcement action to a range of non-compliances identified.


You will use your influencing and negotiating skills to secure best practice and you will respond to and investigate incidents across our portfolio of sites, making sure preventive and protective action is implemented.



You will be expected to take up an incident management role in the wider business which may include out of hours standby duties.

The team
The post will be based in one of our two installations teams, which sit under Local Operations and are based in West Malling, Kent. The teams work flexibly throughout the Kent and South London Area, regulating sites across a range of industrial sectors such as landfill, hazardous waste and non-hazardous waste treatment, power generation, incineration and food and drink.
Experience/skills required
We are looking for someone who is professionally curious, proactive, and self-motivated with good communication skills.


A full UK (United Kingdom) driving licence will be required as is flexibility to travel for operational site visits and incident response. A vehicle will be made available for business travel in line with our travel policy.


It would be advantageous if you can demonstrate one or more of the following:

Have some scientific and/or regulatory and/or industrial experience Can interpret environmental monitoring and performance data Can manage multiple demands and delivering outcomes as part of a team Take initiative and practice a continuous improvement approach. Have a degree or equivalent in a scientific, environmental, or engineering discipline Are a member of a relevant professional organisation such as, IEMA, CIWM

The post will be based at West Malling, Kent, but we support a flexible balance of home, site and office working. We use smart tools to reduce travel, but some travel and overnight stays may be required.
