Rehabilitation Assistant - Teenager

Location

: Lavenham, Suffolk

Hours

: 20-30 hours per week during school term time ( 6.30am - 9.30am and 3.30pm-6.30pm), with additional hours available during school holidays. Some flexibility is required to meet our client's needs.

About the Role



Our client is an 11-year-old girl with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) which affects attention, anxiety, social interactions and educational needs.

Working in partnership with her parents, case management and therapy team, providing practical support and motivation while following personalised rehabilitation goals.

No personal care or behavioural needs. A typical day may involve helping with planning, organising, social and domestic activities, getting ready for school, and getting out into the community or spending time with friends.

Working within the client's home, and the community becoming part of the family's day-to-day lives in a supportive yet unintrusive way.

The role is varied, stimulating and deeply rewarding for someone with empathy and a positive attitude.

About you



You'll be confident, bright and cheerful in your approach, with a light-hearted, can-do attitude to inspire and motivate our almost 12-year-old client. She's about to start a new school and has just moved to a new area, so will need someone to encourage her, build her confidence and support her to overcome her anxiety in a supportive way whilst promoting independence and working towards her therapy goals.

Key Responsibilities



Follow rehabilitation programmes. This will include working alongside our client's therapy team to support the client during therapy sessions, cognitive strategies and communication routines.

Provide some personal support. Help with activities of daily living, such as meal preparation and making healthy choices, dressing, grooming and encouraging exercise.

Encourage independence and social participation: Facilitate activities that build life skills, confidence and enjoyment, both at home and in the local community.

Offer emotional support and motivation.

Assist with personal goals.

Advocate and liaise: Communicate clearly with family members, therapists and the case management team to ensure client needs are met.

Help with orientation to the area:.

Keep accurate records and maintain confidentiality and a professional approach.

Essential Skills & Experience



A genuine interest in supporting people with brain injuries and an understanding of the associated physical, cognitive and emotional challenges.

Compassion, patience and strong communication skills; the ability to listen and motivate others

Experience supporting individuals with rehabilitation programmes or in a care/support role.

Full UK driving licence and access to a car - this is essential due to the rural location and the need to drive Sophia to appointments and activities.

Confidence working independently and collaboratively with families and professionals.

Reliable, punctual and flexible; willing to adjust hours during school holidays to support increased needs.

Previous experience of working with brain injury, rehabilitation or another associated field would be preferred. A minimum of 1 years experience would be preferred.
