The Reliability Engineering Manager has a global remit and reports directly to the Vice President Quality VTBA and is recognised as the organisation’s primary authority on reliability, often working closely with Vice Presidents of Engineering for the divisions and product company engineering managers.
Responsibilities include provision and maintenance of the Design for Reliability process for NPI projects; measurement, tracking and reporting of critical product reliability data for use across entities and to support sales with customers; process ownership for FMEA and Peer Review and development of further reliability engineering best practices within VTBA, based on research and networking with a reliability peer group external to the business.
Success will rely on continued development and implementation of reliability engineering techniques and methods which will be planned and executed as business area wide projects with priorities set by the job holder and a reliance on change management and influencing skills to coordinate effectively with impacted parts of the business, understanding cultural differences across geographies and varying expectations between market sectors. Establish an appreciation and understanding of reliability best practices across industry globally and promote adoption across VTBA (including acquisitions) to achieve requirements of Technology/Quality OGSMs within the business area. Main responsibilites Maintain and manage the Design For Reliability (DFR) process ensuring its successful implementation by NTV and NPI in all new product development projects and retaining synergies with the VTBA PCP / CtP processes. Manage the DFMEA and PFMEA processes, promoting their adoption at appropriate points in the development cycle and ensuring their use to maximum advantage prior to product launch as well as necessary revisions post launch. Provide suitable routine reporting and dashboards of product reliability performance (by product type / division / product company) to fulfil business needs for access to this type of performance data (PQM, NPI, CIP, sales etc). Define peer review process within product development and influence both its adoption and utilization as well as the availability of suitable peer reviewers and up to date, effective peer review checklists. Provide a suite of Accelerated Life Test (ALT) tools, methods and techniques which can be adopted to validate product reliability without excessive extension of project timescales. Ensure comprehensive training is created, available and regularly deployed to engineers for all aspects of reliability engineering, so that this knowledge can be effectively utilized during suitable phases of projects. Attend external industry events, forums, trade shows around the subject of reliability engineering, to represent VTBA and to increase our understanding of new trends, methods and breakthroughs which could be adopted.
Degree level or higher in an engineering or science discipline. Fluent written and spoken English. Work based experience in product reliability engineering. Significant experience in a multidiscipline, international engineering company. Knowledge and practical experience of FMEA, Weibull and RBD including software applications Experience of design of experiment, accelerated life testing and reliability life time predictions. Able to analyse and present data and facts in a clear and concise way with a good level of quality statistical knowledge and experience. Experience of working with suppliers and customers including overseas travel A high level of concern for quality in the organisation, products and applications with a proven ability to influence product reliability. Proven ability to comprehend requirements and assimilate issues into concise action plans, delivering successful project outcomes. Strong influencing, communication and presentation skills both internally and externally.
