Job Description

Install, configure, and maintain solar PV systems, including panels, inverters, batteries, and associated cabling.

Carry out commissioning, performance testing, and fault diagnosis on renewable energy systems.

Implement smart energy solutions, such as smart meters, home energy monitoring systems, and energy-efficient controls.

Provide routine inspection and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal system performance.

Conduct electrical testing in compliance with BS 7671 Wiring Regulations and MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) standards.

Install and integrate energy storage systems (battery storage) with PV installations.

Interpret electrical drawings, technical diagrams, and manufacturer manuals.

Ensure all work complies with health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Advise customers on energy-saving measures and the safe operation of installed systems.

Maintain accurate documentation, including certificates, test results, and service reports.

Skills and Competencies

Solid knowledge of solar PV installation and maintenance.

Familiarity with smart energy technologies (smart meters, energy monitoring, home automation systems).

Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills in electrical and renewable systems.

Ability to use electrical test equipment (multimeters, insulation testers, PV system monitoring tools).

Awareness of grid connection requirements (G98/G99) and export limitations.

Good communication skills for client interaction and teamwork.

Commitment to safety, quality, and sustainable practices.

Qualifications & Experience

Degree in Engineering - desirable

. Level 3 Electrical Installation or equivalent.

City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection & Testing) - desirable.

MCS-accredited training in Solar PV.

Experience in renewable or smart energy installations.

Full UK driving licence (preferred).

Work Environment

Work primarily on rooftops, residential/commercial sites, and renewable energy projects.

Exposure to outdoor conditions and working at heights.

May involve travel between sites and occasional out-of-hours work.
