The Risk and Front-Office Reporting team is responsible for the management of all post-trade data consumed by the front-office, as well as maintaining our real-time positions critical for correct trading of the Execution platform. This means we own systems to calculate P&L, risk and trading cost analysis to allow the firm to monitor fund performance and make investment decisions. We work closely with portfolio managers, traders and the market risk team to understand the reporting they require to make the right decisions for the company.

The platform utilizes a range of technologies, including Java, SQL Server/Snowflake databases, Python and C#. We are in the process of migrating more of our data to Snowflake, leveraging technologies like AWS Batch, Apache Flink and AWS Step functions for orchestration and Docker containers. These new systems will respond in real-time to events such as position and price changes, trades and reference data updates. Processing this data efficiently and robustly is a challenging but rewarding facet of this role.

We need an experienced developer to work on a range of projects across the systems - with time spent on both legacy systems, new development and migration of systems to new environments and approaches. Training will be provided to quickly on-board the developer with the technologies used. You will gain ownership of important systems and grow to be the responsible developer who can then drive its technical direction.

Key Responsibilities

Work with a broad range of business users to understand the changes they need. Help design changes to those systems; both to deliver business needs and constantly improve the systems. Work alongside other developers to build, change and migrate systems. Understand, protect, simplify and improve the overall systems architecture and approach. Communicate progress and timescales to the business.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Experience, Knowledge & Skills

5+ years of commercial software experience predominantly using the technologies listed below. Strong Java and SQL skills required, Python skills a bonus. Knowledge of operating with Cloud engineering platforms and use of AWS services like Batch, Step Function, EKS and Docker containers. Important to have a good understanding core Java and JVM, as well as complex stored procedures and patterns, preferably in SQL Server. Snowflake Database experience can be valuable and would help the team in the data migration process. Knowledge of Apache Flink or Kafka highly desirable or similar technologies (e.g. Apache Spark) Skills in C# WPF or Javascript GUI development beneficial, but not essential. Excellent communication skills. Finance industry experience, preferably with an understanding of market risk; ideally in a similar buy-side environment. Experience building/operating highly available, distributed systems of data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large datasets. Experience with Unix/Linux environments. Understanding of Continuous Integration (e.g. TeamCity/Jenkins) and automation with Ansible.

Educational & Professional Qualifications

Educated to degree (or equivalent) level or higher, preferably from a leading university. A degree with some computing content.
