Position
Role Summary

  • To advise on and supervise a wide range of Biology examinations, interpret and report scientific findings and present evidence in court
  • Be part of a team of Scene Going Biology Reporting Managers attending major crime scenes at the request of our customers
  • The role holder will join a department that is expanding to build upon its success. They will be expected to work flexibly within their team/department and to work collaboratively with other departments in order to meet customer requirements
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Be part of the on-call rota (24/7) for scene attendance at major crime scenes
  • Clarify customers' requirements and convert them into a forensic strategy; to coordinate the search, recovery and testing of material from case exhibits in the laboratory; and interpret the findings in a concise manner to present evidence to the court
  • To ensure adherence where applicable to Quality Standards including ISO 17025 and 17020; relevant UKAS publications; KFS Quality Policy; Procedures and Forms; NDNAD quality documentation
  • Abide to the FSR Code of Practice at all times
  • Manage your own resources including a personal case load and take responsibility for your own professional development
  • Conduct a forensic strategy in line with a CAI approach
  • Undertake or supervise the technical analysis of forensic samples
  • Assign meaningful interpretation and conclusions to forensic evidence
  • Prepare written reports suitable for court/CPS purposes
  • Provide expert evidence to courts
  • To work collaboratively with other departments in order to meet customer requirements
  • To deliver departmental excellence and efficiency driven by the ever-increasing demands of the business - there will be a strong emphasis on continuous process improvement
Requirements
Personal Attributes
  • Ability to take on a high level of responsibility, including attendance at major crime scenes
  • Highly motivated individual, who approaches work with a positive attitude
  • Will be able to work on their own initiative within a documented framework of instruction
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to produce all work to the highest standard
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and an ability to deal with complexity coupled with managing a high workload
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Strong IT capability with an ability to analyse data and formulate decisions accordingly
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills will be essential
  • Skills in motivating others and dealing with conflict through to resolution are desirable
Qualifications
  • Educated to degree level, in a Science discipline
Experience
  • Candidates will have considerable, demonstrable experience of reporting serious Forensic Biology casework, including BPA scenes

Salary - Competitive (+10% shift allowance)
Hours - 37 per week
Holidays - 25 days per annum plus statutory holidays (pro rated) if applicable
