The Centre for the Study of the Legacies of British Slavery (CSLBS) is a world-renowned research centre tracing the impact of slavery on the British Caribbean and the development of metropolitan Britain.
Our current project Valuable Lives (VL) uses the registers of enslaved persons in Jamaica (1817-1833) as the principal source for a significant database project. This will include biographical information on the hundreds of thousands of enslaved people who lived unfree in Jamaica in the last decades of British slavery. The VL database will complement and link with our well-established database on British enslavers.
A commitment to the barrier-free sharing of historical information and to public engagement is central to CSLBS.
