About the role


------------------


We are looking for a enthusiastic Research Associate with a background in bioinformatics and computational biology to work on an innovative project in Parkinson's disease. This project, led by Professor Michael Johnson, is entitled the Landmark Programme, and is looking at post-mortem brain tissue to identify systemic drug targets and biomarker identification for Parkinson's disease. The project has an international profile.


What you would be doing


---------------------------


You will play a key part in driving the analysis of WGS, single-cell RNA-sequencing, proteomic and metabolomic datasets in human brain for novel drug target discovery.



You will use your expertise to apply state-of-the-art statistical genetics and computational methods that integrate molecular data with genetic risk to inform causal paths. You will define the scientific and technical challenges in delivering translational insights from your analyses and work with cross-functional teams to develop new solutions. You will work as a member of a cross-functional team comprising specialists in statistical genetics, computational biology, AI, medicine and drug discovery. You will be part of collaborative teams with external partners and build new relationships.


What we are looking for

You should have a PhD in PhD in Bioinformatics/Computational Biology or a closely related discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience. You should have experience of internal R&D and R Package development, and a knowledge of version control software, such as Docker and Gitlab. You should have a background in research methods and analysing whole-genome datasets. A knowledge of programming language and experience working in an industry setting is desirable but not essential.
