Job Description


We invite applications for a fixed-term (up to twelve months) position 0.6 FTE as Research Associate in the Department of History at the University of Manchester. The Research Associate will work with Dr Charlotte Wildman (PI) on the project \'Reconsidering Crime in Urban Working-Class Homes and Family Life, 1918-1979\', funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council\'s Research, Development and Engagement Fellowship. The project will provide a new historical account of working-class experiences of social and economic inequities through an analysis of non-violent offences undertaken by women and children in urban communities in England and N. Ireland, 1918-1979.

The Research Associate will provide support for the research project. Key duties include undertaking archival research in London, Belfast, and elsewhere in the UK using digital images and transcription; will Co-author a journal article with the PI; and contribute to dissemination activities. They will receive mentoring and support from the PI and will be encouraged to undertake relevant activities to facilitate their career development.

The successful candidate will have, or be near completion of, a PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline (Modern British History; Women\'s History; History of Childhood; Social History; History of Crime) and be familiar with the key historiographical and methodological approaches related to modern British social history.
