About the role


------------------


This post is an excellent opportunity for a post-doctoral scientist with an interest in respiratory disease to join the Margaret Turner Warwick Centre for Fibrosing Lung Disease at the National Heart and Lung Institute.



The post holder will be a highly motivated individual interested in investigating the molecular pathways which promote development of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. The overall aim of the MTW Centre's research programme is to develop more effective anti-fibrotic drugs and a personalised medicine approach for treatment of patients who develop this fatal chronic progressive lung disease.


What you would be doing


---------------------------


A range of in vitro and ex vivo models will be utilised in the project including 2D- and 3D-cultures of patient-derived primary lung epithelial cells and fibroblasts and precision cut lung slices. Studies might also include scRNAseq and spatial transcriptomic analysis in non-IPF and IPF tissue samples. These studies will improve our understanding of disease mechanisms in IPF, with the aim of identifying new targets for therapeutic intervention.




What we are looking for

a PhD in Biological Sciences or a closely related discipline or be awaiting viva voce examination

Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range 43,003 - 46,297 per annum



Practical experience in human primary 2D- or 3D-cell culture and creation of human precision cut tissue slices Practical expertise in a range of functional cell biology assays (eg cell migration, proliferation) and molecular biology techniques (eg RT-PCR, cloning, siRNA, CRISPR) Practical experience in protein analysis techniques (eg ELISA, western blotting, IF staining) Experience in scRNAseq/spatial transcriptomics and bioinformatic analysis will be an advantage
