The post is funded by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research council grant number EP/Z000106/1 to investigate the fundamental laws of Nature.
The research program is to to study conformal field theories, with applications both to phase transitions in condensed matter systems, as well as quantum gravity via the holographic principle.
What you would be doing
---------------------------
The post will carry out research programmes in high energy, condensed matter, and QFT, undertake project management and potentially supervise junior peers. The Research Associate will be expected to submit publications to refereed journals, disseminate the results of their research through talks and seminars, organize workshops, local seminars and journal clubs.
What we are looking for
---------------------------
Hold a PhD in Theoretical Physics or a closely related discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience
Practical experience in a broad range of techniques including QFT in curved spacetime and cosmology, scattering amplitudes, effective field theories including gravitational ones and connections with UV completion
Experience of dealing with theoretical physics community, setting and maintaining new international networks of collaborations, mentoring junior peers (postdocs, PhD students, MSci, MSc and UG students in theoretical physics) through projects and journal clubs
Practical experience within a research environment and publication in relevant and refereed journals
Practical experience effectively presenting work to international communit
Knowledge of Advanced Techniques in Theoretical Physics, including cutting edge quantum field theory techniques applied to gravity and cosmology and amplitude approaches to quantum gravity
Knowledge of research methods connecting with ongoing and upcoming experiments and observations in cosmology, gravitational waves and particle physics
