Research Data & Intellectual Property Principal Library Assistant

Job Description
University of Southampton Library service is seeking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic, and proactive Principal Library Assistant to work as part of our small research data and intellectual property (RD& IP) teams. You will engage with staff and students to provide effective and efficient support in the areas of research data, theses, copyright and intellectual property.
The role
The post-holder will:
- answer/triage queries and resolve problems from students, colleagues and external users,
- mediate the deposition of research data into the institutional repository, following workflows and evaluating datasets, liaising with researchers to ensure that datasets are suitable for the repository,
- manage the Library's day-to-day workflow for the final submission of theses, liaising with students, faculties and doctoral college as required,
- prepare reports, review workflows and analysis data to ensure operational effectiveness,
- supervise the assignment and registering of DOIs for University of Southampton outputs,
- help plan and run training events as well as design training materials tailored to student and staff needs,
- line manage a Senior Librarian Assistant within the RD & IP team.
You must be able to work with minimal supervision, organise workflows to agreed targets, take the initiative in problem-solving, determine priorities and meet deadlines. You will have excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to providing excellent customer service. You will be required to provide support to team colleagues and direct reports in day-to-day activities. A good level of computer literacy is essential, as is the ability to work to a high level of accuracy.
