Research Engineer

Job Description

iotaSciences, a University of Oxford spin-out, is an innovative and fast-growing biotechnology company that emerged from the University's engineering and biology departments. We offer unique solutions to cell line development. These solutions accelerate and advance biomedicine across a wide range of applications including gene editing, disease modelling and drug discovery; with current customers from universities, hospitals and industry. Our employees are motivated to deliver the most innovative next generation technologies in biomedicine that will ultimately translate ideas to clinics faster.

About the role

The research engineer will focus primarily on R&D activities: testing concepts and finding solutions to problems as we develop our next generation of fluid handling robots. This will be a hands on role, involving both programming the robots' motions and prototyping improvements to their hardware. The research engineer will join an established engineering team, and will also work closely with iotaSciences' biology team.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual, with a strong background in engineering or a similar technical subject. They must be capable of working independently. A foundation in fluid dynamics is essential. They should have previous experience working in a research or product development environment - either academic or industrial.

The nature of working in a small company means that day-to-day activities are highly varied, and the successful candidate will be expected to participate in wider company projects as and when needed. In particular, as their technical understanding of iotaSciences' product line grows, they will be expected to contribute to technical support of internal and external users. As a young and growing business, we can offer you the opportunity to gain experience across many departments, thereby adding to your skill set.
