Background
To support the advancement of NIHR funded research project through data collection and analysis, contributing to knowledge generation, and to provide research assistance to projects and research teams in collaboration with the wider research team as well as the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society. This project will work closely with people from South Asian backgrounds i.e. Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu speaking.
Role Summary
Work within specified research grants and projects and contribute to writing papers and final reports
Operate within area of specialism (Rheumatology)
Collect data at a clinical level across NHS settings within West Midlands
With the help of a statistician, analyse and interpret research findings, results and dissemination not just within academy but also within the public and patient community
Main Duties
The responsibilities may include some but not all of the responsibilities outlined below.
Collect research data; this may be through a variety of research methods, such as quantitative and qualitative - work with NHS staff effectively to collect data
Analyse research data as directed
Present research outputs, for example at conferences, seminars, community talks and as posters
Deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines. This might include working with CRN networks to ensure recruitment target is met
Carry out administrative tasks related directly to the delivery of the research
Promotes equality and values diversity acting as a role model and fostering an inclusive working culture
Assist in writing papers for high impact journals
Assist in writing final reports to the funder - NIHR and REC / HRA committees
Contribute to writing bids for research funding
Analyse and interpret data
Apply knowledge in a way which develops new intellectual understanding
Disseminate research findings for publication, research seminars etc
Supervise students on research related work and provide guidance to PhD students where appropriate to the discipline
Contribute to developing new models, techniques and methods
Undertake management/administration arising from research
Contribute to Departmental/School research-related activities and research-related administration
Contribute to enterprise, business development and/or public engagement activities of manifest benefit to the College and the University, often under supervision of a project leader

Provide guidance, as required, to support staff and any students who may be assisting with the research

Person Specification
Degree or equivalent in relevant subject area
Practical experience of applying the relevant skills and techniques
Ability to analyse information and communicate effectively
Ability to access and organise resources successfully
Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010, and how to actively ensure in day to day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly
Experience of working in hospitals
Ability to speak languages such as Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu since the project will involve working with South Asian people
Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively
Contribute to the planning and organising of the research programme and/or research project
Co-ordinate own work with others to avoid conflict or duplication of effort
DBS required
