Job Description

This post is part-time, 17.5 hours per week and fixed term for until August 2028. The salary stated above is the pro-rata amount, the full-time salary would be 47,073 to 52,137 per annum (Incl. LWA).



The AHRC-funded project, Future Ecologies of Clay, is seeking a fixed-term Research Fellow to join the project team.

This research project undertaken by the V&A and Ceramics Research Centre-UK (University of Westminster) addresses the challenge of collecting expanded clay practices and the ability of UK museums to make them accessible to future audiences. The research seeks to ensure recent and historical examples of ephemeral, live, performative, site responsive and participatory works in clay can be identified, explored and analysed in the future.

The project team: Project Lead, Professor Clare Twomey, University of Westminster; Co-Lead, Alun Graves, Senior Curator Ceramics and Glass 1900-now, V&A; Co-Lead Phoebe Cummings, Research Associate; Co-Lead, Tessa Peters, Senior Lecturer, University of Westminster; Consultant Professor Emerita Christie Brown, University of Westminster. This role is one of two Research Fellows (each 0.5 FTE), one based at the University of Westminster, one at the V&A, working closely together and providing linkage across the sites.

The post holder will join the Ceramics Research Centre project team at the Centre for Research and Education in Arts and Media (CREAM), University of Westminster, for the duration of the project.
The Research Fellow based at the University of Westminster will be expected to perform a range of research duties, including but not limited to:analysing case study practice models created for four UK museums (including the V&A). writing up case studies and research findings disseminating research by publishing articles, presenting conference papers and other relevant activities. managing the project-related website. supporting the organisation of a conference and related seminar series and the collation and recording of data and information gathered through project-related events.

The candidate will have knowledge of material practice, documentation skills, and experience of museum collections and archive research. They will demonstrate strong organisation and communication skills, be confident working as part of a team and liaising with external museums and partners.

Working conditions are flexible, some work may be completed remotely, though semi-regular in-person meetings with the research team on the Harrow or a Central London campus will be required. The post holder should be willing to travel within the UK and possibly abroad.
