UCL Department of Chemical Engineering is one of the top research and teaching departments in the UK and has world-class standing. The EIL is a world-class facility for the development of electrochemical energy systems, with activities ranging from materials discovery to understanding electrochemical processes and analytical diagnostics, device design, development, modelling, systems development and demonstration.
About the role
------------------
This exciting 5 month project brings together industry and academia, focusing on scaling from coin-cells to pouch cell prototypes and validating manufacturability through spray coating on a large area. The successful candidate will be developing and optimising spray-coating processes, as well as assembling and testing pouch cells to benchmark against previous project research. The candidate will be working with industry partners, providing samples for validation, and analysing and interpreting results to assess reproducibility, manufacturability, and industrial relevance.
This is a fixed term role until 28th February 2026 in the first instance.
Salary is 45,103 per annum inclusive of London allowance.

About you
-------------
The successful candidate will hold or be close to obtaining a PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Electrochemistry, Materials Science or relevant discipline. In this battery related project, candidates must have prior experience in li-ion and/or solid-state battery research, as well as coin cells, and working experience of thin film or coating techniques. As the candidate will be working closely with industry partners, the candidate must be confident presenting complex information to stakeholders and varying audiences, and have worked previously on multi-partner research projects.
