We wish to appoint a Research Fellow to work on an EPSRC funded project - "Control methods for reliable sensing information in interconnected energy systems". The aim of this project is to design novel methods to detect and identify anomalies in the sensing information for the control of interconnected energy systems and to derive control architectures resilient to unreliable sensing information in IoT frameworks. We are looking for an enthusiastic researcher to take a proactive role in performing research activities as outlined below.
About the role
------------------
The successful candidate will have an opportunity to develop expertise in an exciting interdisciplinary research field at the intersection of Control Engineering, Sensors, Cyber-physical security and Power and energy systems. The research involves providing answers to a key open research question: How to safely and efficiently control emerging energy systems applications based on the IoT, where it is challenging to guarantee the reliability of the sensing information? The post holder will have full access to research infrastructure comprising laboratories, testbeds and data to support this project at UCL and with the project partners. In addition, the post holder will have access to a variety of training programmes for career development exclusively available to UCL staff.
The post is available from the 1st January 2026 for 3 months in the first instance, further funding may be available.
About you
-------------
Applicants should have a PhD degree (or about to submit) in Electronic Engineering or a related field. Proven capability and expertise in control systems design is essential, as are skills in the design of control/monitoring architectures for distributed/large-scale/network systems. The ability to simulate and compare control architectures and estimation/detection algorithms' performance is also required. Experience in energy systems applications and machine learning is desirable.
If the successful candidate has not yet been awarded their PhD, appointment will be made as a Research Assistant (Grade 6B). Payment at Grade 7 will be backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis including corrections, once the PhD has been awarded. The salary scale for Research Assistant (Grade 6B), point 25-28. Salary range 39,148 - 41,833 (inc. London Allowance of 5,197 pa).
