About us

------------

The UCL Institute for Global Health (IGH) is at the heart of UCL's Grand Challenge of Global Health. The Institute's vision is for a world where international policy on global health is informed by world-class research. IGH aims to support the development of robust solutions to aspects of the world's major global health challenges through scholarly outputs, education, public engagement, translational research, and ultimately by influencing public policy and professional practice.

We are seeking two Research Fellows in Epidemiology to work on the data analysis and paper writing of the Natsal project.

Natsal is led by Prof Pam Sonnenberg and Prof Cath Mercer (Principal Investigators [PIs]), with a multi-disciplinary research team. Natsal is a collaboration between UCL, NatCen Social Research (NatCen), LSHTM, University of Glasgow, University of Cambridge and Orebro University, Sweden.

The Natsal team is supported by a large network of collaborators including key stakeholders and an Expert Advisory Group.

About the role

------------------

Based within the Centre for Population Research in Sexual Health and HIV, the post holders will join an existing team of research fellows who undertake Natsal analyses and paper writing. Specifically, the post holders will contribute to analyses involving bio samples and/or Natsal data linked to routinely collected administrative data.

The post holders will work closely with the Natsal research team, and in particular Lead Data Analyst (Dr Elise Paul), as well as co-PI (Pam Sonnenberg), the Academic Director (Soazig Clifton), bio sample lead (Prof Nigel Field), and data linkage lead (Dr Neha Pathak).

The Natsal-4 datasets are large, with >10,000 variables. The post holders will work closely with the Lead Data Analyst (Dr Elise Paul) to (i) carry out analyses of the Natsal-4 quantitative data; (ii) produce tables of results; (iii) contribute to the interpretation of the results; (iv) assist with the writing of papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals and other outputs; and (v) prepare and present the results for conferences and other dissemination activities. The post holders' contribution will depend on their expertise and research interests but will also include analysis of bio sample and linked data.

There are two full-time roles (i.e. 36.5 hours per week) available immediately. The duration for both posts is until 30 November 2026 in the first instance.

A job description and person specification can be accessed at the bottom of this page.

Salary range: 44,480 to 51,860 per annum (including London Allowance), depending on experience.

If you have any queries about the role, please contact Dr Elise Paul (e.paul@ucl.ac.uk) or Prof Pam Sonnenberg (p.sonnenberg@ucl.ac.uk).

If you need reasonable adjustments or a more accessible format to apply for this job online or have any queries about the application process, please contact the IGH HR Team on IGH.HR@ucl.ac.uk.
