The UCL Knowledge Lab is a world-renowned research institute.The Lab leads cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research investigating the ways technologies reshape how we connect, interact, collaborate and create knowledge.



We are looking for an early career researcher or PhD student at their final stages to work with us in the UKRI CHAILD project (see https://chaild.org/ - Children's Agency in the Age of AI: Leveraging Interdisciplinarity.



CHAILD is UKRI-funded project that aims to establish a foundational understanding of children's agency in digital environments increasingly dominated by AI systems. The UCL team is specifically focusing on the educational technology angle, developing agency-fostering prototypes through co-design with children, creating evaluation frameworks to assess children's algorithmic agency in educational contexts, and establishing design principles that prioritize children's values in AI-powered learning tools.




About the role

In this post you will lead the design and/or development of AI-based systems that foster learner agency and learning.



In addition, you will work directly with various stakeholders particularly children (pupils) and teachers.


About you


-------------


With a Doctoral degree (or near completion) in AI or HCI (preferably applied in Education or broadly human-centred AI), Educational Technology or related disciplines , you will also have knowledge of techniques and methods for designing and learning environments and co-designing with children as well as other stakeholders.



Your application form should address all the person specification points and should clearly demonstrate how your skills and experience meet each of the criteria.



It is important that the criteria are clearly numbered and that you provide a response to each one.



This post is expected to start as soon as possible with a 12 month contract and the possibility of extension.



The post is full time but flexible arrangements (including job share with another candidate) may be considered.
