About the role
------------------
We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow who will be a key member of Dr Wittmann's team. They will gain substantial experience and training by working on cutting-edge human cognitive computational neuroscience. The post holder will collaborate with other researchers in designing and conducting research into human social cognition that is of an international standard, and that is carried out expertly, rigorously and in accordance with ethical guidelines. You will work with complex computational models of behaviour and neural dynamics, conduct functional magnetic resonance imaging experiments to identify the underlying neural computations and will need to show some independence in conducting your work. You are expected to contribute actively in the lab (e.g., during lab meetings), and be part of a thriving community of researchers working in related subject areas. The role will involve working closely with other team members.
The post-holder will be based at the Department of Experimental Psychology, 26 Bedford Way, London WC1N 3AR. Note that there is some flexibility around the proposed start date for this post, and earlier and later start dates can be discussed.
The post is funded for three years in the first instance. Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Grade 6B (salary 38,607 - 41,255 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD Thesis.
About you
-------------
The candidate should have a PhD (or be close to completion) in computational/cognitive neuroscience, cognitive science, experimental psychology or related discipline. It is essential that the candidate have experience applying advanced machine learning approaches (classification and decoding methods) to behavioural, fMRI and/or MEG data, and experience conducting/analysing neuroimaging experiments. A background in brain stimulation techniques, in particular transcranial ultrasound stimulation, is desirable but not essential. Excellent problem solving and inter-personal abilities, both in practical settings (e.g., conducting experiments) and theoretical ones (e.g., programming challenges) is required.
