The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is one of the world's leading public health universities. We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to join the Infectious Disease Epidemiology & Dynamics department at LSHTM to work on polio eradication. This role utilises global surveillance data for polio to inform understanding of the status of eradication and develop research that can inform policy in this important area.
The candidate should have a background in a quantitative subject, in particular epidemiology or medical statistics and be familiar with the use of mathematical modelling of infectious diseases. The post-holder will work closely with partners within the Global Polio Eradication Initiative to ensure that research is focused towards supporting eradication goals. Epidemiologic analyses will be carried out to provide assessment of key metrics with the potential to lead data collection in relevant countries. The post-holder will be supervised by Dr Kathleen O'Reilly and expected to be an active member of the wider research community at LSHTM.
The post-holder will have a postgraduate degree, ideally a doctoral degree, in a relevant topic and demonstrable experience in analysing datasets such as infectious disease surveillance, applying statistical methods, and interpreting output. Further particulars are included in the.
The post is full-time, 1 FTE and fixed-term until 30 September 2027. The post is funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and is available from 01 October 2025.
The salary will be on the LSHTM salary scale, Grade 6 in the range 45,097-51,156 per annum pro rata (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part-time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary "Wellbeing Days". Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at LSHTM.
