A post-doctoral research fellow position is available to join Professor Francesco Saverio Tedesco's stem cells and neuromuscular regeneration laboratory, co-located in the UCL Department of Cell and Developmental Biology (Division of Biosciences) and The Francis Crick Institute (www.tedescolab.org). The candidate will work on projects developing and harnessing the potential of human stem cell-based models for advanced neuromuscular disease modelling and therapy development.


About the role


------------------


The candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team of >10 researchers to develop projects focused on neuromuscular disease modelling, understanding disease mechanisms causing neuromuscular diseases and/or development of novel genetic therapies for muscle disease. The are also expected to support the PI and his team to design, run, record, analyse experiments, write up results, supervise junior lab members and research student and contribute to lab management. A variety of experimental techniques will be performed, including stem cell cultures, advanced imaging, tissue engineering, molecular cloning, functional assessment of 3D cultures, and computational analyses.



This role is for one year contract to start, with potential to be extended.



Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Grade 6B (https://www.ucl.ac.uk/human-resources/sites/human_resources/files/2025-_26_ucl_non-clinical_grade_structure_with_spinal_points.pdf ) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD Thesis.

About you

Candidates must have a PhD qualification in a relevant subject area (e.g. cell/developmental biology, genetics, biomedical sciences, biotechnology, stem cells and regenerative medicine, bioengineering), experience in leading a research project to completion (e.g. publication), as well as proven knowledge of experience in research techniques and methodologies including (but not limited to) stem cell cultures, muscle cell cultures, bioinformatics, bioengineering and viral/non-viral gene genetic therapies. In addition to developing and conducting the research, you will communicate results as scientific papers and in scientific presentations at local, national, and international conferences.
