The Research Fellow will work in Cortexlab, the neuroscience laboratory led by Profs. Matteo Carandini and Kenneth Harris at University College London (UCL).
The posts offer an exciting opportunity for research in projects focused on optical and electrophysiological approaches to study brain function, and on the analysis of vast datasets of neural data. The laboratory is at the forefront of some of the most advanced techniques in neuroscience, including next-generation Neuropixels Opto probes, which allow concurrent electrical recordings and optical stimulation. Other techniques that are used in the laboratory include chronic Neuropixels recordings, two-photon imaging with regular microscopes and with a Light Bead Microscope, and functional Ultrasound Imaging.
About the role
------------------
Salary: UCL grade 7, spine point 32-35 (46,261 - 49,943 per annum, including London Allowance)
Duration: The funding for this post is available until 31st March 2027, in the first instance.
The successful applicant will join a team of scientists working on establishing the brainwide circuits of vision, audiovisual integration, navigation, and decision-making. They are expected to lead a vigorous research program in the context of the team, devoting efforts both to their own research and to the broader goals and needs of the team. They will take a leading role in all aspects of the projects, from designing and performing experiments, to data analysis, to the presentation and dissemination of the results. A Fellow whose work leverages the new Neuropixels Opto probes would also participate in the development of these probes and be responsible for testing their function and for demonstrating their application in advanced neuroscience experiments aimed at uncovering the circuit basis of neural function.
About you
-------------
Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent in neuroscience, engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or a similar field, and an ability to work in a diverse group including computational and experimental neurobiologists. Essential requirements are experience with recording or analysing neural signals from the living brain, analysing large data sets in Python or MATLAB, and writing scientific manuscripts, which is typically evidenced by a record of publications. Desirable requirements include experience withvisual neuroscience or optical imaging or mouse behaviour.
