The mission of the Research Department of Epilepsy is to transform the lives of people living with epilepsy for the better by identifying, understanding, and correcting or preventing the underlying mechanisms leading to the epilepsies and associated comorbidities in each individual person. About the role
------------------
You will be working within the Vivekananda group to understand the mechanistic basis of anhedonia in epilepsy using advanced computational approaches to analyse behavioural/magnetoencephalography/intracranial electroencephalography data, and in particular AI tools.
You will be an active member of a research project that seeks to understand the mechanisms at multiple brain levels of low mood and in particular anhedonia in epilepsy. This will be achieved by using structural and functional neuroimaging data and relating this to behavioural output pre- and post-epilepsy surgery, and will be extended to broader clinical populations e.g., depression. You will be expected to produce independent, original contributions to the project and will have the opportunity to develop your own program of research in line with these themes.
The post is available immediately and funded by EPSRC to 31 March 2026 in the first instance.

About you

You will have a PhD in science, engineering, maths or a related subject area that incorporates some aspects of neuroscience. Proven knowledge of research techniques and methodologies is essential, as is evidence of a good publication record, knowledge of clinical neuroscience, and demonstrable experience of collecting and/or analysing neurophysiological (in particular MEG) data. Demonstrable expertise in computer programming, excellent communication skills with the ability to teach/demonstrate to others, and the ability to interpret and critically evaluate results and analyse and write up data is also required for this role.
This role meets the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL welcomes applications from international applicants who require a visa.

Appointment as Research Fellow is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be as Research Assistant (salary 39,148 - 41,833 per annum) with appointment as Research Fellow being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
