This is an exciting opportunity for an epidemiologist / health economist (or candidate with another relevant background aligned to the Personal Specification) to join the REACH project team. The REACH project aims to inform flood and heat preparedness measures for maternal and child health care at the district, facility and community levels in Brazil and Zambia. The Research Fellow will work with research teams in Europe, Brazil and Zambia to examine flood and heat impacts (including their compound effects) on maternal and child health service use, and identify risk thresholds and drivers of vulnerability. The Research Fellow will also support the development of an agent-based model for Brazil
The post-holder must have a postgraduate degree, ideally a doctoral degree, in a relevant topic and will have expertise in analysing large quantitative datasets and in epidemiological or econometric methods, using R software package, and an understanding of techniques used in agent-based modelling.
The post is full-time 35 hours per week, 1.0 FTE and fixed term until 31 December 2026. The post is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and is available from 01 January 2026.
The salary will be on the LSHTM salary scale, Grade 6 in the range 45,728 - 51,872 per annum pro rata (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary "Wellbeing Days". Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at LSHTM travelling as required to Vienna, Brazil and Zambia.
