The fellowship is hosted within the UCL Division of Surgery and Interventional Science, which fosters a highly collaborative and cross-disciplinary environment where clinicians, scientists, engineers, and allied health professionals are constantly striving for innovative approaches to treatment and evaluation.



Our research spans the full translational pathway, which is reflected in the multidisciplinary nature of our team. Our aim is to improve patient and population health, and the delivery and the quality of healthcare. We achieve this through improving our understanding of the biological, psychological and social determinants of health and clinical outcome, and through the development, implementation and evaluation of novel interventions.


About the Role


------------------


The post holder will deliver the M-SERES Study, focusing on extracellular vesicles as biomarkers of Crohn's disease. This includes:


Designing and implementing study protocols. Managing ethics, governance submissions and regulatory documentation. Supporting patient recruitment at UCLH and collaboration with clinical teams. Leading laboratory workflows: whole-blood processing, EV isolation, molecular assays, sequencing and proteomics. Conducting laboratory work at the Raynes Building (UCL), facilitating timely sample processing. Contributing to teaching within the Division at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Working alongside PhD students in the research group, providing day-to-day scientific support and fostering a collaborative research environment. Supporting student research activities, supervision and academic development where appropriate.

This is a part-time (0.4 FTE), fixed-term post. This post is available for 12 months in the first instance (extention to 24 months subject to satisfactory progress)

About You


-------------

The successful candidate will have the following:




PhD in biomedical sceinces, molecular biology, immunology or related field (or thesis submitted and awaiting viva) Experience handling human samples and using core molecular techniques (PCR, ELISA, sequencing prep) Experience with extracellular vesicles isolation and anlysis (small and large) Strong communication skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams Strong IT literacy (data entry, digital documentation) Experience in RNA sequencing workflows and/or proteomics Commitment to patient-centred research and academic development Experience of working with patients Ability to design studies and contribute to protocol development An interest in the research process and acaemic career development Willigness to contribute to research grant application writing
