The Aberdeen Centre for Evaluation (ACE)'s specific aims are to work for the implementation of better health and social care, identify developments within health and social care that are effective, efficient and high quality, and explore and understand experiences of health and social care. This work is underpinned by the Centre undertaking work with patient and public partners, undertaking capacity building, education and training, using and developing interdisciplinary approaches and leading the way with the development and implementation of new and innovative methodological approaches.






We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow for a period of maternity cover to join Professor Katie Gillies' team and deliver interdisciplinary trial methods research. Prof Gillies' programme of research centres around the use of behavioural science to inform the design and delivery of clinical trials. Prof Gillies has been awarded a Medical Research Council Senior Non-Clinical Fellowship to further develop this work and this Research Fellow post will help deliver the research activity. The programme of work aims to develop innovative interdisciplinary behavioural optimisation methodology that will allow trials to deliver more robust patient focussed findings. The methodology will add value through addressing several interlinked research objectives, such as:



a. Determine which components of trials can be considered through a behavioural lens



b. Investigate how behavioural approaches have been applied to the conduct of trials to date



c. Identify core behavioural components on influences and interventions targeting trial conduct



d. Establish the feasibility of the application of a behavioural approach to the conduct of trials



e. Critically consider the ethical issues relevant when applying a behavioural approach to trial conduct



f. Identify what resources trial teams need to adopt behaviourally focussed approach to conducting trials



g. Establish an international network to engage research communities and promote wide adoption and future opportunities.



Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 6 scale, 38,249 - 40,497 per annum, and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.
