Set within UCL's Faculty of The Built Environment, The Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources (BSEER) is comprised of four world-class Institutes, providing the expert knowledge collaborative research and teaching of UCL Energy Institute, UCL Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering, UCL Institute for Sustainable Heritage and UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources.



The UCL Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering pursues a deeper understanding of the interactions between the built environment and health, human wellbeing, productivity, energy use and climate change.


About the role


------------------


The postholder will be based in IEDE and will work intensively with other partners of the 'Accelerating Resilience and Climate Adaptation of Domestic Environments for vulnerable populations' (ARCADE) project. The ARCADE project aims to assist decision-makers to protect vulnerable individuals in the UK in adapting to climate change within their homes, with a particular focus on older individuals and less studied types of housing, who are often overlooked in discussions about heat-related health. The project will examine various residential settings, including retirement villages and social housing, to understand how people are affected by heat.



This post is available immediately and is funded until the 28/02/2027 in the first instance; further funding to support the post may become available.



Interviews are expected to take place on the 01 or 02 September 2025.

About you

The ideal candidate will have a PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant field, experience of engaged, social or qualitative research, experience of system dynamics modelling and group model building and a keen interest in policy-engaged research.



For consideration of appointment at Grade 8 candidates must have substantial experience working either at post-doctoral level in the research areas noted above (in which case, appropriate academic publications should be demonstrated) or respective consulting capacities (in which case, leadership of reports and/or substantial projects should be demonstrated).
