The role


We are looking for a highly collaborative and motivated individual with knowledge and experience of supporting research and / or delivering specialist systems and infrastructure. The successful candidate will join the Directorate of Learning Resources, which provides high-quality, innovative Library and Digital Education Services to enhance teaching, learning and research and support our students and staff to achieve their goals. They will also be responsible for library support for Open Scholarship, and Learning Resources' contribution to the implementation of research policy for the institution and to research evaluation and assessment.

About the team


The Research and Infrastructure Lead will report directly to the Associate Director Content & Scholarship and shape the development and delivery of the Directorate's services in support of research and the library's digital systems, providing strong leadership and line management for the Open Research and Digital Infrastructure and Discovery Teams.
As an active member of the Learning Resources (LR) Senior Leadership Team, the postholder will contribute to the planning and review of LR services and projects to deliver on the strategic aims of the Directorate and, working closely with the Content & Collections Lead, ensure that the provision, discovery and delivery of library content and scholarly outputs support the learning, teaching and research needs of the institution.

What will I be doing?



Working with the Associate Director Content & Scholarship, set strategic priorities for library support for Open Scholarship, research evaluation and researcher development and development priorities for digital library systems and platforms

Be an active member of the Learning Resources (LR) Senior Leadership Team, modelling a highly collaborative and inclusive approach to leadership

Set the direction and priorities for the Open Research and Digital Infrastructure & Discovery teams, and provide effective line management for direct reports

Contribute to the development of institutional policies on Open Research and the interpretation and implementation of funder mandates, facilitating the promotion of a culture of Open Scholarship

Lead on the management and development of a high quality training and support offer for researchers

Take an active role in local and sector-wide negotiations for scholarly content, identifying new initiatives and publishing models and implementing these at Oxford Brookes, where appropriate*


Take responsibility for the management and development of the institutional research repository

Oversee the management and allocation of the University's Open Access block grant(s) and other sources of Open Access funding.


What skills do I need?



Demonstrable knowledge of current trends in scholarly publishing and research evaluation

Familiarity with technologies used to store, manage and share research outputs and their associated metadata (e.g. repositories, CRIS)

Understanding of core library systems (e.g. library service platforms, discovery systems)

Excellent IT, information and data-handling skills

Able to manage projects and deliver to agreed outcomes

Commitment to maintaining current awareness in own area of expertise and to continuing professional development


About the location



The role is full-time and permanent. The post is based in the Library at our Headington campus, although you may be occasionally required to attend our site at Swindon. We support hybrid (home / office) working patterns and the role is likely to require 1-2 days on campus per week.
