We are seeking a collaborative and solutions-focused Research Manager to join the within the on a full time, permanent basis.

About the role:

The role focuses on the coordination and project management of the Programmes grant portfolio, both pre and post-award. You will provide comprehensive research management support to the Head of Programme, Faculty, Associate, Honorary and International Faculty members of the Programme, enabling them to deliver their ambitious scientific goals.

The appointed individual be responsible for monitoring and communicating both core and grant funded financial budgets, as well as coordinating and delivering upon annual financial reporting requirements. Working collaboratively with our internal and external stakeholders, a key part of this role is to ensure we are meeting our contractual obligations as determined by our funding parties.

The position also champions effective coordination and collaboration with the Institute\xe2\x80\x99s central support areas Scientific Operations and Management Operations, to facilitate strong communications, efficient operations and compliance with policies.

There is also an exciting opportunity within the post to project manage the financial and administrative requirements of some of the more complex grants that are within the Programme\xe2\x80\x99s portfolio; maintaining good communication across all parties involved in the project and helping the grants to meet their deliverables on time and in budget.

About you:

The successful candidate will have previous experience of working within an academic or scientific setting, or possess a scientific qualification. You will need knowledge and understanding of grant funding, with the ability to produce and report on financial budgets within software such as Excel.

As a confident communicator, you will be comfortable with negotiating the competing priorities of multiple stakeholders. You will be organised with good attention to detail, and will be able to balance your workload accordingly to the requirements of the Programme, working with peers to escalate or delegate activities when required.

You will be able to track and proactively manage some of our most complex grants, as they will require careful coordination to ensure we are meeting the requirements set out by the funding party. Proactive and adaptive, problem solving with an open mind that is something you enjoy.

In addition to being collaborative and a team player, you will be effective in matrix management and will be able to work well under pressure whilst maintaining strong working relationships.

About us:

PaM uses genomic approaches to explore questions of basic science relating to the evolution and spread of bacterial pathogens, and to understand how genotypes and phenotypes relate to each other in both pathogens and hosts.

This Research Manager role would be based within the PaM Operations Team which works collectively to maximise and support the scientific aims of the Programme. We are currently reviewing our processes toimprove efficiency and enhance transparency across the programme. Essential technical skills:

Previous scientific experience or qualification

Knowledge of scientific third party funding

Experience of producing, managing and reporting on budgets

Excellent IT skills

Project management experience desirable

Hybrid working is welcomed at Sanger and the expectation is that you will be on site three days a week.
