Research and Innovation Services provides support and services for our academics working across the research and innovation lifecycle with a focus on applying for and managing funding, and providing professional advice on collaborations and contracts. The Directorate is comprised of four teams; Award Services, Contract Services, Planning, Insight and Improvement, and Compliance and Assurance, who all work together to deliver a service to support, advise and provide expertise to our academic community for our extensive and varied portfolio of externally funded projects.
About the role
------------------
The Research Manager role is key to the success and financial performance of UCL, by ensuring accurate and timely grant applications are submitted and that when awarded, these are reviewed and set up efficiently and effectively to enable the research to start.
The role entails the provision of expert practical advice on all aspects of pricing and costing research activities, including choice of funder, terms and conditions of funding, overhead recovery and optimising the chances of success of a proposal. This advice is provided to researchers and administrators in order to guide departments on how to approach non-standard situations/complex funding calls, and in concert with the Research Contracts team as required.
The Research Manager role supports UCL departments and academics in applying for and setting up funding from the European Commission, including Horizon Europe and US Federal Agency funding including the National Institutes for Health. The role will also support the ERIO senior team in responding to the changes in EC and US federal funding.
About you

To be successful in this role, you should have experiene in a similar role, a strong background in supporting research and innovation projects within a higher education environment and a solid understanding of research and innovation funding issues.
You thrive in fast-paced environments, effectively managing high volumes of work to meet tight deadlines. Your excellent analytical and problem-solving skills enable you to interpret complex documentation and disseminate financial information clearly to colleagues at all levels, including those without a financial background.
A confident communicator, both written and verbal, you can foster collaboration and contribute effectively within a team. You are adaptable to change, capable of working independently under broad direction, and proactive in championing improvements. Experience with research or innovation management IT solutions and costing software would be an advantage.
