The Deepings Practice is a large practice based in Market Deeping with a branch site at Glinton, we serve over 24,000 patients. The Deepings practice has a large team of clinical and non-clinical staff lead by seven partners and a full senior management team. We have a CQC score of Good and strive for excellence in all areas of patient care. We have a strong focus on health promotion and personalised care, supporting patients to make informed decisions about their health and social care. We are a dynamic, friendly, and supportive team with experience in training GPs and other healthcare professionals.

We are looking for a dedicated part-time Research Nurse. You will help our practice embark on its new research venture, managing communications, supporting study setups, and ensuring timely recruitment and data integrity. The role involves administrative support, financial reviews, participant recruitment/testing and consent.

Role Overview:



General

Will act as the first point of contact for all telephone, email and personal enquiries from researchers and other stakeholders relating to community and primary care research engagement and study set-up and will ensure that all enquiries are dealt with effectively and in a timely manner, escalating any complex enquiries to the Research Coordination Manager or appropriate senior member of staff.

Will use excellent communication skills on a daily basis to speak to a wide range of individuals and organisations including departmental colleagues, Higher Educational Institutions, Community Organisations, Practice Managers, GPs and other practice clinicians, patients and Local Clinical Research Network (LCRN) contacts.

Will monitor and act upon requests from care home managers, hospice managers, General Practices and other non-NHS Community services to participate in research studies and queries from the same, making sure that all emails are dealt with in a timely and efficient manner.

Will provide timely administrative support to researchers and other members of the team. This will include the creation of documents, relevant procedure guides, robust administrative systems, events and communication materials.

Will have sound knowledge of the NIHR, Clinical Research Network & HRA and will remain familiar with the evolving landscape of Research Management within the NHS.

Will be required to adhere to a strict code of confidentiality, ICH Good Clinical Practice and Trust R&D and information governance policies.

Will have excellent organisational and time management skills enabling the post holder to manage workload priorities, ensuring the more urgent and important tasks are completed first within required timescales.

Will have the ability to work independently, on own initiative and at times with minimal supervision. They must be able to exercise judgement where necessary when responding to queries, delegating or escalating as appropriate. The candidate will seek advice when necessary from their manager.

Will recognise own learning needs and take responsibility for maintaining up to date knowledge by attending various training courses as appropriate.

Study Management

Will be responsible for ensuring an effective customer service to all researchers presenting with new project information or enquiry.

Will effectively request and maintain research projects documents storage and support the researchers to develop local documents (study summaries etc.) required for project set-up.

Will support the researchers in establishing the feasibility of the study in the primary care setting and with the support of managers and clinical champions provide feasibility advice.

Will assist the research study teams to ensure that project moves swiftly to the point of recruitment of the first patient and facilitate the promotion and setup of the project in the locality.

Will arrange confirmation of capacity and capability as appropriate in line with local & national guidelines & policies.

Will work with and maintain timely input onto local and national systems.

Will have sound knowledge of Research Passports & Letter of Access and advise researcher appropriately and issue as appropriate as per current NIHR /DOH Guidelines to researchers.

Will use medical, scientific and research related knowledge and terminology to understand and communicate key aspects of the study and use that knowledge to identify disparities or areas where further clarity is required.

Finance, Costing & Contracts

Will undertake reviews of research protocols and schedule of events to ensure costings information is comprehensively captured and correctly attributed.

Will support the robust and timely costings of services are included within the proposed contract by supporting negotiation of commercial contracts with the costing & contract team, NHS sites, managers, pharmaceutical companies and Contract Research Organisations (CROs).

Will provide working knowledge of national and local costing and attribution requirements.

Will calculate NHS Service Support Costs using the agreed national and local templates.

Will escalate matters arising in the negotiation of site costings and agreements in an appropriate and timely fashion to the researchers and managers.

Will support the timely review of Clinical Trial Agreements (CTA) and Statement of Activities (SoA) to ensure that they meet their contractual requirements and facilitate the signature of these by liaising with the sponsor and site as required.

Will administer payment claims for authorised activity and process invoices as required.

Recruitment

Will actively support the practice with the identification, recruitment and retention of participants into studies.

Will provide verbal and written information and support to practices and research participants.

Will maintain good working relations with other local research delivery staff such as research nurses, research coordinators and study coordinators.

Will assist researchers to monitor recruitment by identifying areas of low recruitment and liaise with the manager to identify mechanisms for improving

Will, with appropriate training, take informed consent, clinical samples or measures for studies follow-up as necessary in accordance with research protocol.

Will facilitate the recording of patient recruitment on the Local Portfolio Management System.

Reporting

Will ensure data integrity and maintenance of all research management systems and conduct regular reviews to ensure full and accurate information about research projects and outputs.

Will provide regular status and progress reports to the manager on study performance and other key metrics. Select the appropriate methods of presentation of these reports for the audience and the information being presented, providing explanation and clarification as required.

Will use reports to support the performance management of key departmental objectives.

Pay: 17.00-21.00 per hour
