Job Description

As a Generic Research Nurse you will work autonomously with responsibility for your own portfolio of clinical research studies, with the support of senior staff.



You will be responsible for the recruitment of participants onto clinical trials via a GP Practice and a Hospital setting.



You will play a pivotal role in the delivery of complex research projects, in line with agreed timescales and plans; working with the RDI Management team to ensure that all appropriate approvals have been gained prior to research studies commencing.



You will maintain effective communication between Trust clinical services, primary care and community organisations to ensure safe service delivery.



You will evaluate research protocols, patient information and GP letters and ensure that information about clinical trials is clearly and appropriately communicated to research participants.



You will manage the research related aspect of care for participants of several research studies, which may cover different health specialties.



To co-ordinate all designated clinical research studies as directed by lead clinician to ensure recruitment targets are met.



To identify, screen, interview patients and recruit them into the appropriate studies.



To assist the Principle Investigator in the informed consent process, ensuring the subject in fully informed prior to participation to the study.



To co-ordinate and carry out patient visits in accordance with study protocols, including co-ordinating special tests in other departments, collection of data, coding, data entry and patient support.



To carry out treatment procedures and treatment interventions according to pre-determined protocols, including venepuncture, venous cannulation, administering of intra-venous drugs and vital sign recording.

Providing primary care services at Marshalls Cross Medical Centre situated in St Helens Hospital.



Community Services



Providing adult community services for St Helens and a wheelchair service in Chorley, South Ribble, and West Lancashire. Our inpatient unit at Newton Community Hospital is where patients needing acute hospital beds can continue rehabilitation, freeing up space for more unwell patients. We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.



Specialist Regional Services



We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.
