36,187 per annum

Full Time - 40 hours per week

Fixed Term for 12 months

We are looking for an experienced Research Scientist to flourish in our growing team. The perfect candidate will have in depth knowledge of the scientific method, statystical analysis, and data handling experience. The role will also require strong written and verbal communication skills.

TREAT-NMD is a small not-for-profit organisation working with a global network of stakeholders to help accelerate the development of treatments within the neuromuscular field, ensuring the most promising ones reach patients as quickly as possible. We help facilitate this via educational masterclasses aimed at healthcare professionals, providing anonymised data to support researchers and pharmaceutical companies and we provide guidance on the translation and development path of drug development programs, to name but a few of our key support services.

The Role



The aim of the research scientist is to support the research, registries and data team. The postholder will support the group to deliver research projects, enquiries, scientific work, technical writing and data analysis across the business.

Main Duties and Responsibilities



Research, Data and Scientific Communication



Support the research and data team manager and analytical engineer in delivery of research projects, data enquiries and technical infrastructure involving data from registries across the TGDOC network. Keep up to date with scientific advances in rare genetic neuromuscular conditions, and any other relevant area to fill knowledge gaps within the TREAT-NMD team. Interrogating, querying, graphically representing and analysing data creating statistical output and figures fit for publication (R, Python, SQL) Support on the creation and delivery of scientific publications at conferences, patient-facing workshops, journals and meetings. Work will span the full range of the publication process including the creation of abstracts, posters, reviews and original research articles Take part in discussions and development of new infrastructure, systems, projects and workstreams. This role is technical, and the postholder should have a high-level understanding and be able to contribute to development of the methodology behind selected infrastructure Provide advice to the research and data team manager in creating proposals for new work with external stakeholders. Attend appropriate conferences as required to gain knowledge, present work and promote the business to a range of technical and non-technical audiences. Work with the Chair of the TREAT-NMD Advisory Committee for Therapeutics (TACT) to produce plain English, publicly accessible versions of TACT reviews. Perform data handling and analysis tasks such as quality control, data restructuring and sharing patient-level data with appropriate stakeholders in research projects.

Global Registry Network



Play an active role in Global Registry activities within area of expertise. Support the research and registries engagement lead with communication activities relating to Registries and Registry Enquiries. Help to create links between the existing network of global registry curators and the respective sub-group disease area leads, to increase collaborative working. Support subgroups and take ownership where appropriate in producing scientific work (posters, abstracts, publications) and encourage collaborative working across the network.

Essential Skills & Qualifications



Degree qualification or equivalent in a relevant discipline PhD or equivalent postgraduate research experience in biological/biomedical sciences etc Strong background in statistical analysis and data handling Proficiencies in coding development (SQL, Python, R) are essential Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to produce content that is suitable for, and appeals to a broad range of audiences
