Biosciences is one of the world's foremost centres for research and teaching in the biological sciences and one of the largest Divisions within UCL, undertaking a significant amount of research and teaching. The Division has a diverse portfolio addressing all areas of biology from protein interactions to cell function, organism development, genetics, population studies and the environment. Computational modelling approaches are frequently used alongside experimental research programmes and much of our research crosses traditional boundaries, including the relationship of biodiversity to the health of the planet. Activity is underpinned by high calibre science technology platforms and state of the art equipment. Educational activity includes a range of undergraduate programmes, an expanding number of Masters Programmes and a substantial number of postgraduate research students.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the UCL Mass Spectrometry Science Technology Platform Hub Team.
About the role
------------------
Established in 2019, the UCL Mass Spectrometry Science Technology Platform (UCL MS-STP) serves as the central hub for mass spectrometry at UCL, designed to advance research through state-of-the-art technology and expertise. The MS-STP ensures access to basic as well as advanced mass spectrometry analyses and support for all UCL researchers, fostering innovation and collaboration across a diverse range of scientific disciplines. We also work with colleagues from outside UCL and from industry. Organised using a hub-and-spoke model, the central hub specialises in proteomics and structural mass spectrometry, while each spoke focuses on a different area of MS.
The MS-STP hub is equipped with a wide range of mass spectrometers, from basic to advanced models, alongside essential equipment for optimal sample preparation. The hub currently features instruments such as the Waters Select Series Cyclic IMS, Xevo G2-XS QTof with Acquity UPLC M-Class, Waters BioAccord System, Orbitrap Eclipse Tribrid Mass Spectrometer, and the CellenOne single-cell isolation and preparation system.
We are seeking a highly motivated person to join the UCL MS-STP Hub team. As part of this team, you will play a critical role in supporting groundbreaking research and development, contributing to the advancement of several and diverse projects. Your expertise will ensure the efficient operation of state-of-the-art instrumentation, enabling high-quality data generation and analysis in a collaborative and innovative environment.
