BBC Bitesize Scotland is looking for a Researcher to help deliver online educational resources. Our Researchers work across Bitesize Secondary, Primary and Continuous Improvement teams.

BBC Bitesize is the UK\'s leading free education resource. We make brilliant curriculum-linked content to serve an audience of learners aged 4-17, with a brand promise of "We\'ve got you." Our team is based in the BBC Scotland Digital Department where we work alongside teams producing Authors Live, LAB, BBC Arts online, The Social, and Culture Scene shorts.

As a Bitesize researcher, you will need experience in using content management systems and basic xml, or the ability to quickly acquire these skills . Working ability with Photoshop and other Adobe Creative Suite programmes would be welcome. You will need to be organised and able to communicate well within a small team and with external contributors.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

You will support the Content Producers and Senior Content Producer in delivering digital resources that could include video, text, infographics and interactive content, inspiring and supporting young learners in their formal education.
  • Working with Content Producers to build and maintain online educational articles and guides.
  • Editing copy provided by teachers into Bitesize formats.
  • Checking accuracy of content and back-checking data and statistics and their sources.
  • Sourcing suitable archive images and clearing their use.
  • Assisting in the shaping of video and graphics content produced by external companies.
  • Creating and publishing xml subtitles and transcripts for video content.

  • You have the creative skills to bring written and visual content together into engaging and inspiring articles that will have a positive impact on our audience and their learning.
  • You are able to communicate well with colleagues, external consultants and partners, and work with them to make great content.
  • You are organised and have the project management skills to deliver key elements of larger project management workflows.
  • You will have the ability to accurately edit text for publication and work with writers and/or commission written content and experience of digital editing software.
  • You will have also the ability to work with digital images including photographs and simple graphics.
  • You will be able to research and check information, data and sources to ensure that content is factually correct and accurate.
  • You will have knowledge of Scotland\'s curriculum or the ability to quickly gain an understanding of what diverse learners at school in Scotland need from our content.
