About the Role



The Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine is seeking to appoint a Researcher in Genomics of Infections to join Dr Azim Ansari's group, based in the Peter Medawar Building for Pathogen Research. This Wellcome Trust-funded position will focus on understanding how host and pathogen genetics interact to influence disease outcomes, with a particular emphasis on hepatitis D virus, alongside other major global pathogens including hepatitis B and C viruses, HIV, SARS-CoV-2 and Dengue.

The postholder will be responsible for designing and optimising sequencing approaches, leading data generation and analysis, and contributing to the development of novel methodologies. In addition, they will support the wider activities of the research group by mentoring junior colleagues, liaising with collaborators, and contributing to publications and grant proposals. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research at the interface of genomics, virology and translational medicine within a leading international research environment.

About You



To be considered for this position you should;
Hold a relevant PhD (or close to completion) or MSc level in a relevant discipline (e.g. molecular biology, genetics, virology) with substantial relevant laboratory experience.

Strong experience in molecular biology techniques, including nucleic acid extraction, nucleic acid sequencing (NGS and Sanger), PCR/qPCR, and ELISA.

Demonstrated ability to design, optimise, and troubleshoot molecular assays, including experimental planning, hypothesis testing, and refinement of protocols.

Excellent communication skills, with experience presenting results, liaising with collaborators, and contributing to scientific reports or manuscripts.
