Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced project manager (Grade 8) from an engineering background to steer a major project at the intersection of systems engineering and healthcare delivery. You will work with a highly interdisciplinary research team and with our clinical and health data partners to ensure the project meets its goals. You will have excellent understanding of engineering approaches to project management as well as high level organisational and interpersonal skills.


RESHAPE-CARE (re-engineering services for health, maximising person centred care) is a research and innovation programme to transform care for people with multiple long term conditions. It represents a partnership between systems engineers, healthcare researchers, health data experts and health service providers. Key elements of the project include the development of "digital twin" computer systems to model and inform patterns of medical testing in long term conditions and the use of engineering approaches to changing the ways in which services work. RESHAPE-CARE is a partnership between the Universities of Sheffield (School of Medicine and Health and School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering) and Manchester. It is jointly funded by the National Institute of Health Research and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and will run for 4.5 years. A key element of the project is close working with people with lived experience of multiple long term conditions, particularly from communities experiencing multiple forms of disadvantage.

This post provides a unique opportunity for an experienced project manager to develop expertise in a rapidly evolving field.

Main duties and responsibilities

As project manager you will be responsible for working with the lead investigators to deliver the project. This will involve working with stakeholders (public and services) and academics from engineering, data science and health. The investigator team has worked together on an 18 month development award so you will be joining an established and effective team, at a time of scaling up in size and impact. You will be responsible for the day to day running of the study, including planning and overseeing the delivery of multiple work packages, managing multiple different meetings and ensuring timely production of both internal and external reports.



You will work closely with the study co-lead investigators Professor Visakan Kadirkamanathan (engineering) and Professor Chris Burton (health) along with the large team of academic and clinical co-investigators (approximately 20 in total). You will also oversee the work of a team of 6 researchers who will be appointed to different elements of the project. You will have substantial secretarial support from an experienced member of our professional services team.


You will be based in the Sheffield Centre for Health & Related Research and work closely with colleagues in Engineering (the buildings are only a short distance from each other). Some travel to Manchester and to clinical sites and community meetings in Sheffield and South Yorkshire will be expected as part of the project.



The RESHAPE-CARE team has public co-investigators and a major programme of public and patient involvement. You will be expected to engage with this as an integral part of the project. As a member of the University of Sheffield you will contribute to the vibrant academic life of the university.
