Job Description

You will work with consultants and/or their team within a specialty area, relating closely to other administrative and clerical staff within the urology service, and the service co-ordinator/Assistant Service Manager/ Assistant Divisional Manager. The post holder will work closely with the MDT team and cancer services.
Main duties of the job
This post if for a clinical fellow to run a one stop haematuria service. This will include clinics, flexible cystoscopy clinics, potential theatres and on call activities, detailed below.

Job description
Job responsibilities
Alongside running a one stop haematuria service, the post holder will partake in a 1-in-7 Registrar of the week rota (0800-1700), alongside the rest of the on call team which consist of a Consultant of the Week (who has all other elective activity cancelled), 2 Urology SHOs (covering Wards and Emergency Department), 1 FY1 and 1 Physicians Assistant.
The overnight/weekend on call comprises of a 1-in-7, 24/7 middle grade rota - compliant with EWTD and the 2018 Junior Doctors Contract as stipulated by NHS Employers.
The department is busy, but is friendly and welcoming and committed to training. This role is ideal for progression through to higher specialist urological training.
Person Specification
Education and qualifications:
Essential

  • Confirmed GMC registration to cover the scope of employment
  • M.B.B.S or Equivalent
  • MRCS Part 1 and/or 2
Desirable
  • Distinctions, Scholarships, prizes
  • Other degrees e.g. BSc. Masters, PhD (or equivalent
Knowledge:
Essential
  • Competent in basic urological procedures
Desirable
  • Able to perform flexible cystoscopies (trainer scrubbed or independent)
  • Exposure to Transperineal or Transrectal biopsies
  • Logbook shows exposure to Urological surgery
Experience:
Essential
  • Experience in UK Hospital
  • Able to prioritise clinical need
  • Understands current clinical issues in specialty
  • Aware of own limitations consultants senior colleagues appropriately and knows when to ask for help
  • Understands the confidentiality and data protection
  • Understands the need for and appreciates the role of audit in clinical practice
  • Understands the principles of clinical governance - ensures patients are not put at risk principles of patient confidentiality and data protection
