JOB PURPOSE
To strengthen relationships between the housing service and residents by developing, delivering, and supporting opportunities for resident involvement. The postholder will ensure residents have a genuine voice in shaping services, policies, and community initiatives, while promoting inclusive and meaningful engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Resident Engagement & Involvement
Develop and deliver a range of opportunities for residents to get involved, from formal panels and forums to informal community activities.
Ensure residents are informed, consulted, and able to influence decisions on housing services, policies, and improvement projects.
Facilitate focus groups, surveys, workshops, and digital engagement platforms.
Support and encourage underrepresented groups to participate, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility.
Community Development
Work with residents to develop and support local projects that strengthen community cohesion and wellbeing.
Identify and nurture resident leaders, providing training and support where needed.
Promote volunteering, skills development, and partnership opportunities with external organisations.
Communication & Information Sharing
Produce clear, accessible communications (newsletters, bulletins, social media updates) to keep residents informed and engaged.
Gather resident feedback and ensure it is shared with relevant teams, closing the loop by communicating outcomes back to residents.
Maintain accurate records of involvement activities and resident feedback.
Collaboration & Service Improvement
Work closely with Independent Living Officers, Area Housing Officers, and external partners to deliver joined-up engagement initiatives.
Support service reviews, audits, and inspections by providing evidence of resident involvement.
Monitor and evaluate the impact of resident involvement activities, reporting outcomes to management and residents.
Person Specification
Essential:
Experience in community engagement, resident involvement, housing, or related field.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with diverse groups.
Knowledge of housing and/or community development issues.
Ability to design and facilitate meetings, workshops, and community events.
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.
Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Desirable:
Experience working within a housing association or local authority environment for a minimum of 2 years.
Minimum Housing/social care activity co-ordinator qualifications.
Understanding of regulatory requirements around resident involvement (e.g., Regulator of Social Housing, Consumer standard guidelines).
Ability to use digital tools and social media to enhance resident engagement.
Experience in monitoring, evaluation, and reporting on engagement activities
