Pharmacy provide a comprehensive range of pharmaceutical services and extended clinical roles to many clinical areas, including tertiary specialities.



We work closely with our clinical colleagues, including our eight consultant pharmacists, meaning you will have the best possible platform to develop your skills and knowledge and be a part of a Trust providing world-class clinical care.



Our rotations are across four main sites and most of your time will be spent in clinical areas, engaging with patients and colleagues.



Additional benefits include paid study leave and course fees to undertake a Clinical Diploma, and the opportunity to complete your independent prescribing qualification as part of the Clinical Diploma (if not already obtained) as part of the strategic objective of the department to have all clinical pharmacists as prescribers by 2028.

The Pharmacy Residency programme offers:

Experience across multiple specialities and hospital sites allowing you to develop a wide experience for your clinical pharmacy portfolio, with the opportunity to complete nine four-month rotations in areas such as:



General medicine, Surgery, Stroke, Intensive Care, Orthopaedics, Neurology/neurosurgery, Children's, Renal and Transplant, Infectious Diseases, Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Cancer and Palliative Care, and Medicines Information



A postgraduate clinical diploma with Cardiff University



Experience leading the dispensary during out-of-hours services



Working as part of the Hospital at Night team, proactively reviewing patients requiring medicines optimisation



Varied shift work to challenge and stretch you to become an expert at prioritisation and organisation



Join a team of friendly resident pharmacists who work collaboratively and are responsible for providing the Trust's out-of-hours Pharmacy service. This is achieved by working varied shift patterns across weekends and weekdays, alongside a variety of clinical rotations. A fantastic amount of peer support is provided by working within such a close-knit team of like-minded individuals. There is an experienced team of senior-on-call pharmacists who provide support throughout the night for calls which need senior advice.



As one of the largest teaching trusts in the UK our pharmacy department work across 4 different sites. By joining the resident team you will have the opportunity to work across all sites with people from different cultures and backgrounds. Within the department there are eight consultant pharmacists across various specialities, who offer expertise and guidance to all aspiring clinical pharmacists. We focus on delivering the best clinical training and opportunity for learning, while simultaneously striving to improve pharmaceutical services.

It has a variety of famous monuments and buildings, cultural landmarks and historical artefacts, including the notorious Headington Shark. With close links to London and Birmingham and the picturesque Cotswolds within easy reach, Oxford offers that escape-from-the-city atmosphere without compromising on availability to the big city attractions.



To participate in the out of hours resident pharmacist rota, to all the Oxford University Hospitals. Service provision is also provided to other contracted organisations. The rota covers weekdays, weekends and bank holidays. This involves working late and night shift patterns. The out of hours' service is supported by a senior pharmacist on call from home via a radio page.



To record all out of hours calls on the on call records database in order to provide a measure of service use, to allow peer review, clinical governance, training and to ensure appropriate follow up of particular identified problems and/or patients.



To participate in the provision of comprehensive pharmaceutical services for all Oxford University Hospitals.



Complete a local induction programme including core training, and maintain core skills throughout employment.



Act as a role model for pharmacy within the Trust, demonstrating Pharmacy Professional Standards and our Trust values.



Deliver compassionate excellence via a patient focused clinical pharmacy service, in accordance with national medicines optimisation principles and local clinical pharmacy procedures.



Analyse prescriptions, alongside technical resources, patient records and information from patient consults to form an opinion on the most appropriate course of action, communicate this in a way that supports shared decision making.



Participate in and promote antimicrobial stewardship activities.



Accurately and sensitively communicate medicines related information to a variety of healthcare professionals and patients including those with language difficulties, physical or mental disabilities.



Plan and organise your own workload in alignment with professional and organisational priorities.



Delegate and escalate appropriately.



Support compliance with medicines related legislative and regulatory requirements, including maintaining the security and quality of medicines stock.



Undertake Audits and Quality Improvement Projects to support our culture of continuous improvement.



Report unexpected or untoward events via the Trust's incident reporting system.



Where relevant to a rotation, complete training in clinical trials and support the supply of investigational medicinal products.



Undertake a program of study leading to a Postgraduate Clinical Diploma over 2 or 3 years, with the opportunity to complete an independent prescribing qualification if not already obtained



Use independent prescribing within own competency, following Trust approval



Support the training and mentoring of our trainee pharmacists and technicians, as well as colleagues who are new to the Trust.



Participate in weekend and bank holiday working according to the service needs.



Any other reasonable duties as requested by the Clinical Director of Pharmacy, or Associate Director of Pharmacy - Clinical Service.
